REDEFINE 2: a combination trial in type 2 diabetes

The population and comparison define what this combination trial can tell us.

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

REDEFINE 2 randomized 1,206 adults with overweight or obesity and type 2 diabetes to cagrilintide-semaglutide or placebo, with lifestyle intervention, for 68 weeks.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

The combination group had greater average weight reduction and improved glycemic measures. Gastrointestinal adverse events were reported more often with the combination than with placebo.

03 / INTERPRETATION

What are the limits?

The trial compared the combination with placebo, not each component separately. It therefore cannot by itself isolate the contribution of each component, and its diabetes population should not be conflated with other trials.
