Semax in chronic stress: positive and neutral behavioral findings

Male rats exposed to unpredictable stress received Semax or another ACTH analog and underwent behavioral and tissue assessments.

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

Male rats exposed to unpredictable stress received Semax or another ACTH analog and underwent behavioral and tissue assessments.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

Selected hedonic, stress-related and hippocampal measures improved. The forced-swim immobility endpoint did not show the same pattern.

03 / INTERPRETATION

What are the limits?

Animal behavioral tasks do not diagnose or demonstrate treatment of human depression. Neutral endpoints and differences between the two peptides belong in the interpretation.
