Cagrilintide: investigating an amylin-based approach

A phase 2 study investigated weight change and tolerability for an amylin analogue.

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

This multinational study randomized 706 adults without diabetes to cagrilintide study groups, liraglutide or placebo. The main weight endpoint was assessed at 26 weeks.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

Cagrilintide groups had greater average weight reduction than placebo. Gastrointestinal symptoms and administration-site reactions were among the adverse events reported.

03 / INTERPRETATION

What are the limits?

The study was designed to explore response across regimens, not lifelong outcomes. Findings for an amylin analogue do not prove that all peptides have the same effects, or that a catalog material is a clinical formulation.
