Ipamorelin selectivity: what the original preclinical experiments tested

The early pharmacology paper compared hormone-release responses in cells and animals.

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

The investigators studied ipamorelin in primary rat pituitary cells, rats and swine, with other growth-hormone secretagogues as comparators. Their experiments measured growth hormone and several other pituitary or adrenal hormones.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

Ipamorelin stimulated growth-hormone release. In the reported swine experiments, its ACTH and cortisol response differed from that of the comparator secretagogues and was closer to the response associated with GHRH stimulation.

03 / INTERPRETATION

What are the limits?

Selectivity in particular animal experiments is not proof of absence of adverse effects in humans. This study did not establish clinical benefits or long-term safety. Species, assay conditions and the exact peptide identity limit the transfer of these results to other settings.
