Kisspeptin-10: hormone responses depend on sex and cycle phase

Small volunteer groups showed why reproductive context matters when interpreting a hormone response.

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

This investigation compared reproductive-hormone responses to kisspeptin-10 in healthy men and women. Female participants were studied in different menstrual-cycle phases, with small groups in each experimental condition.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

Men showed increases in LH and FSH. Responses in women differed by cycle phase: the reported stimulation occurred in the preovulatory phase, whereas the tested follicular-phase conditions did not produce the same hormone changes.

03 / INTERPRETATION

What are the limits?

The small groups and short observation window limit generalization. Hormone responses do not establish fertility outcomes or a treatment regimen. Cycle phase and the exact peptide form must remain part of any summary instead of claiming a uniform response in all people.
