Mazdutide: a phase 2 study in China

A regional phase 2 study examined a dual GLP-1 and glucagon receptor approach.

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

This interim analysis covered 248 adults with overweight or obesity randomized at 20 hospitals in China. The primary assessment was weight change at 24 weeks.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

The mazdutide groups had greater average weight reduction than placebo. Diarrhea, nausea and upper respiratory tract infection were among the reported adverse events.

03 / INTERPRETATION

What are the limits?

The analysis concerns selected study groups and a short follow-up. Population characteristics and trial-specific eligibility matter when considering applicability elsewhere; the result is not evidence for every marketed material carrying the same name.
